In January 1994, Farrar called supervisor Tony Margherita to tell him of his choice to go away the band. Uncle Tupelo cut up on Could 1, 1994, after finishing a farewell tour. Uncle Tupelo recorded demo tracks in the attic studio of future Chicago punk producer Matt Allison in Champaign, Illinois. Wade Farrar was the lead singer of the band, however his dedication to Southern Illinois University and an tried enlistment in the United States Army meant he was solely able to dedicate a small period of time to the group.
